Glaucoma Diagnosis & Long-Term Care

Guarding Your Sight Against the Silent Thief.

Glaucoma is a disease that damages the optic nerve, which carries visual information from the eye to the brain. It is primarily caused by increased pressure within the eye. Factors that may contribute to glaucoma include genetics, age, high blood pressure, diabetes, and certain medications.

Treatment & Drops

Diagnosis for glaucoma includes the monitoring of intraocular pressure (IOP) and examining the optic nerve. Treatment of glaucoma includes eye drops, laser procedures, and even surgery.

MIGS

Glaucoma can be treated with a MIGS procedure, in conjunction with cataract surgery or on its own. Some of the MIGS procedures Dr. Bennett does are listed below:

  • iStent: a tiny, tube-shaped device implanted into the eye to improve the fluid outflow and reduce IOP (intraocular pressure)
  • XEN Gel Stent: a tiny, flexible tube implanted into the eye to improve the fluid outflow and reduce IOP
  • iTrack or Via 360*: a stent-free glaucoma procedure that treats the outflow pathway of fluid to effectively reduce IOP
  • Streamline Surgical System: an implant-free procedure that treats the outflow pathway of fluid to effectively reduce the IOP
  • Durysta: a dissolvable implant inserted into the eye that releases medicine over time to help lower IOP

The best MIGS option for the patient will be discussed with and recommended by Dr. Bennett at the initial evaluation. It is also important to note that not all MIGS procedures are covered by insurance.

The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.
